Step-by-Step: How to Record a PDF or PowerPoint with the Dubb Chrome Extension:

Here's a quick video:

Step 1: Open Your File in Chrome

You can open a PDF or PowerPoint file directly in Chrome by doing one of the following:

  • Right-click the file and select “Open with > Google Chrome”

  • Or drag and drop the file into a new Chrome tab

This will open the file in a viewable format directly in your browser.

Step 2: Enable “Allow Access to File URLs” for the Dubb Extension

To allow Dubb to record over your file, you need to enable file URL access:

  1. In Chrome, click the three-dot menu (top-right)

  2. Go to Extensions > Manage Extensions

  3. Locate the Dubb Chrome Extension and click Details

  4. Scroll down and enable the setting “Allow access to file URLs”

This step is required to let the extension interact with PDF or file-based tabs.

Step 3: Activate the Dubb Extension

With the file open and permissions granted:

  1. Click the Dubb Chrome Extension icon in your browser toolbar

  2. Choose Screen + Cam or another appropriate mode

  3. Select the tab or screen where your document is displayed

  4. Turn on the webcam bubble to show your face on top of the content

  5. Hit Record

After recording begins, you can:

  • Move your webcam bubble to the ideal position

  • Use Dubb's drawing tools to annotate live during the recording

  • Speak directly over your document for context and clarity

Note: The Chrome Extension records the entire screen (including the browser UI). If you want more control over your recording area, consider using the Dubb Desktop App instead (more on this below).

When to Use the Dubb Desktop App Instead

While the Chrome Extension is great for speed and convenience, the Dubb Desktop App provides added flexibility, including:

  • Custom screen area recording

  • Higher resolution and smoother video processing

  • More robust editing tools post-recording

If you’re doing detailed tutorials, walkthroughs, or client-facing presentations, you may prefer the Desktop App for a cleaner, more polished result.
